Saint Andrew's
Youth Groups - Mission Trip
A Message from the Youth
Minister:
The biggest event the youth group
has participated in this summer was the youth mission trip to
the Quad Cities. Eleven youth including Joe Butler, Matt
Sarver, Tom Sarver, Audrey Eaton, Emily Anderson, Nathan Spitler,
Amanda Spitalli, Paul Spitalli, Maura Killian, Marissa Howland
and Maria Von Dreele attended the trip chaperoned by Mike
Lambert, Tim Boo, Shelley Forrester and me. It was quite the
eventful trip as we were kept busy from the time we arrived
Sunday afternoon to the time we departed Friday morning.
When we arrived we were split
into groups with two other churches from Minnesota that would be
our work groups for the week. Groups did work such as painting,
gardening, cleaning, babysitting children, and working with
developmentally disabled adults during the day. At night we
attended a water park, a youth service at a local church, and
held a community cookout for our groups and the residents in the
area.
We also worshipped together and
had time to discuss and reflect on our day as a church group
each night. Spending this week together we all got to know each
other a little better. For me it was strange to come home and
not wake up to see fourteen other people around me at breakfast
the next day. Everyone seemed to have a great time and learned
a lot from helping the community we were serving in the Quad
Cities. We have lots of pictures to share with you! Thank you
again for your support on this trip.
Coming up in September, we will be hosting the second annual
Youthapalooza for our first youth group. This will take place
on Sunday, September 12 and will be a combined youth group
filled with games, food and friends. Feel free to bring friends
and encourage those to come who you don’t always see at youth
group.
On Sunday, September 19 we are inviting the parish to “Come
Together” for dinner as a thank you for their support and to
tell you about our Mission Trip.
Also in September is the Diocese junior high retreat called
New Beginnings which will take place Friday September 24 to
Sunday September 26. This is a retreat for junior high youth
that is led by high school youth in the Diocese. It is a great
opportunity to get together with other youth from the area and
have a great time playing games, getting to know each other, and
worshipping together. This month New Beginnings will be held at
St. Andrew’s. Since it is so close by it would be a great time
to try out the retreat if you have never been to one before.
Feel free to ask me or other youth who have been on the retreat
if you have any questions. Forms are due by September 11 and
will be available at church.
Please stop by our CHURCHFEST table to sign up and get information about the upcoming year. Looking forward to another great year! Anna |
