Youth Groups - Mission Trip Preview
A Message from the Youth
Minister: The Quad Cities!
The first thing I need to do is
announce the destination and dates of the youth group mission
trip 2010!
We will be going to the Quad
Cities July 18 to 22. The Quad Cities are located on the
Mississippi River. They consist of Davenport and Bettendorf in
Iowa and Moline and Rock Island in Illinois with a population of
400,000.
The mission trip will be through
Youth Works and we will be serving at places such as children’s
programs, elderly centers, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and
thrift stores. Youth Works does an excellent job of planning
and providing several activities for the many groups that join
together for their trips. Evening activities may include
serving a meal at a local shelter, swimming at a water park,
attending a local church service, and having a community
cookout. This trip will be for junior and senior high youth
entering 7th grade in fall 2010 through current 12th
graders. We will be having an informational meeting on Sunday
March 14 during youth group for anyone interested!
Speaking of the mission trip, our
first mission trip fundraiser occurred in February at the ice
sculpture festival. The youth group was in charge of face
painting at the ice sculpture festival in Downers Grove. At
this moment we are still adding up the total amount made, but
both days we had a steady crowd all afternoon so we’re thinking
it was a success. Thank you to everyone who helped set up and
paint faces!
I also want to thank John Quené
for volunteering to chaperone the New Beginnings weekend. New
Beginnings occurred the last weekend in January at St. John’s
Episcopal Church in Flossmoor. Paul Spitalli, Nathan Spitler,
Ben Lee, and Quentin Lee attended. John Quené
And I were the chaperones for the
weekend. Everyone seemed to have a great time visiting with
their friends from other churches in the Diocese.
Coming up in March, regular youth
groups will continue on Sunday evenings. We will also begin
planning fundraisers for our mission trip. One thing that we
will be doing is monthly fundraising events at restaurants in
the area. Please keep an eye out for dates and fliers!
