Saint Andrew's
Youth Groups
A Message from the Youth
Minister-
LOOKING BACK @ 2011
FORWARD TO 2012!
December was a busy month for the
youth group, as the holidays normally are for most. At the
beginning of December we took a trip downtown Chicago to view
the windows at Macy’s and see the Christmas decorations
throughout Chicago. Quentin Lee, Nathan Spitler, Katie Spitler,
Marissa Howland, Ben Lee, Paul Spitalli, Emily Anderson, Glenn
Spitler, and I took the train to Union Station after a lunch
together at Subway. From there we walked to Macy’s and viewed
the windows featuring celebrity ornaments whose profits were
going towards the Make a Wish Foundation. Afterwards we walked
over to Daly Plaza and looked at the tree and the German market
they have set up there. It was fun to look at all the different
booths set up with a variety of items for sale from various
countries throughout the world. There were many handmade
ornaments, Christmas decorations, and baked goods.
The following week the youth
group baked 12 dozen cookies for the reception following Advent
Lessons and Carols. We baked chocolate chip cookies as well as
many sugar cookies cut into holiday shapes that we decorated
with frosting and sprinkles. Following our cookie baking we
enjoyed Dominos pizza and exchanged our annual white elephant
gifts. This year there were bubbles, books, stuffed animals,
beanie babies, and movies exchanged. We even had one stuffed
animal come back that was exchanged last year at our Christmas
party. It may become an annual gift to be passed on to a
different youth group member from year to year.
We ended our busy holiday season
with caroling to various members of our congregation. Waring
and Ellen Webb did a great job organizing our caroling party
this year. We traveled to five different houses throughout
Downers Grove to sing to the families that live there. Everyone
was very appreciative of our singing and we enjoyed spreading
some holiday cheer. A wonderful chili dinner complete with corn
bread and cookies followed our caroling
Coming up in January, the youth
group will begin their weekly youth group activities. Special
activities that we will be taking part in will be childcare
during the annual meeting as well as Laser Tag at Laser Quest.
Planning ahead to February, the
Diocesan junior high retreat, New Beginnings, will be taking
place the weekend of February 3-5.
