We are the
Episcopal Church of Downers Grove Illinois
-Celebrating our 125th year in 2009
Services
of the Episcopal Church began in Downers Grove in 1880, when a few
families met in homes and rented
buildings.
The cornerstone for a church building at
Franklin and Forest was laid in 1897, 125 years ago. That building
served the congregation until the 1950’s.
Construction on the rest of the building began in 1955, and was
finished in phases over the next several years.
Our Newest Wing was completed in late 2005
and we received official occupancy just after the 1st of the year 2006.
Currently
St. Andrew’s is home to approximately 700 baptized members of all ages,
drawn from Downers Grove and the surrounding suburbs.
It is an active,
friendly parish which offers a variety of programs for both children
and adults. Our life together is rooted in our faith in Jesus Christ,
strengthened by God’s love, and lived out through our worship, study,
service and fellowship.
We encourage everyone to
Come Grow
With Us
by becoming active members of
Saint Andrew's
Church and participating fully in the good news of Jesus Christ.
Celebrating Our
125th Anniversary!
A committee of enthusiastic parishioners has planned many
events in 2009.
Our celebration began with the two services at Saint Andrew’s Church on
the Day of Pentecost, Sunday, May 31st.
The Rt. Rev. Victor Scantlebury, assistant bishop of the Diocese of
Chicago will conclude the celebration with a visit on Sunday, November
8th for the finale.
Join the fun that will bring us together to celebrate Saint Andrew’s
125 years.
